Local Leadership in a Global Era: Policy and Behaviour Change in Cities

Why are some cities thriving in a global innovation economy whilst others are struggling?

The global economy is impacting the way local government is run and how local officials behave. Within local governments around the world, some officials are reacting to the changes by proactively positioning themselves and their cities within the global economy. Those officials are looking to the emerging markets of innovation and entrepreneurship on the global level to drive local economic development.  This book examines the changing behaviours of local elected officials and policy structures at the local level, including emerging local innovation and ‘born global’ entrepreneurship, that are linking the local economy to the global economy.
